Industrial Tank Drone Inspection in India

How industrial facilities can plan visual inspection of tanks, roofs, ladders, platforms and external surfaces with safer first-look documenta...

Storage tanks and process vessels can contain difficult-to-access roofs, shells, ladders, platforms, pipes and external attachments. Drone imagery may reduce the need for an initial close-access review, but it does not automatically replace a certified inspection or determine the safety of a tank.

Define the asset and inspection question

Record tank ID, type, height, roof, shell, platforms, pipework, vents, nearby equipment and reason for review. State whether the assignment is a visual baseline, coating or corrosion triage, post-weather record, repeat comparison or engineering support.

Coordinate facility conditions

Confirm process state, heat, vapour or emissions, access, power, workers, exclusion zones, radio restrictions, weather and the facility contact. The owner should identify when a close approach is unsuitable.

Capture traceable evidence

Use asset sections, consistent views, date, image references, visibility limits and follow-up. A visible mark may require cleaning, NDT, rope access, engineering or other specialist investigation; do not turn it into a diagnosis automatically.

Handover securely

Separate original media, selected evidence, annotations, report, limitations and version history. Restrict sensitive process or security information and keep public marketing material separate.

FAQs

Can drones inspect a tank without scaffolding?

They may provide a visual first look where access, equipment, process, weather, safety and current feasibility support the operation.

Can a drone certify tank integrity?

No. It can provide visual evidence; integrity and certification require the responsible inspection or engineering process.

Can tank inspections be repeated annually?

Yes, with tank IDs, viewpoints, conditions, dates, report standards and follow-up actions kept consistent.
